A warm welcome to Forge Cottage

We are ideally situated in the Cotswold countryside, with footpaths and bridleways radiating from our cottage. These provide wonderful walking in open fields, woods and along riversides. Blenheim Palace is 4 miles away and hosts horse trials in September, as well as public opening of the palace and grounds. This was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and his grave is nearby in the village of Bladon. There are many lovely Cotswold villages and gardens nearby to explore. There is a Roman Villa only short walk from our cottage and Kidlington is just 5 miles away.

On arrival you will be welcomed by myself, Jill French, into my home with afternoon tea in the garden, relaxing in the swing seat under the old Blenheim apple tree. This is also a wonderful place to sit in the total darkness, (no street lights) to contemplate the stars. My home and garden are non-smoking areas.

I am very interested in organic growing, both in my garden and allotment, where I grow lots of English berries and fruits. At breakfast, they are often in the fresh fruit salad. Breakfast is freshly cooked for my guests and they make their own hot toast from an assortment of hand cut breads. Preserves are all home-made using home-grown fruit, except for the oranges and lemons (future possibility!).

Guests sit sociably together in the dining room and I with them, when I have cooked their breakfasts. I have a sound knowledge of the area and it is a good opportunity to help my guests decide what to explore in the locality. I have maps for walkers and drying facilities too. There is safe storage for bicycles too. It is a lovely, informal place to to stay and I enjoy meeting people.

How to find us

  • From Oxford take the A44 to Evesham road
  • At the Woodstock roundabout, go left towards Witney on A4095
  • After 4 miles, turn right to Roman Villa and East End
  • Immediately right again to East End
  • From the telephone box on the right, count 8 utility poles on the left - Forge Cottage is by the 8th pole
